What does the forest industry do to combat the greenhouse effect ?
Growing forests, and use of wood based products, help to combat climate change. New growing trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and convert that into carbohydrates in a process called photosynthesis. CO2 is stored in growing trees and in the timber and paper products that we use. This is called “carbon storage”.
For producing 1 m3 of wood a tree absorbs about 1 ton of CO2from the atmosphere, and stores it. As a result, the more we use forest products and the more harvested trees are replaced by new ones, the better this is for combating the greenhouse effect and our climate.
