What is the difference between paper and board ?

• As a basic product, paper and board are the same. The main difference is area weight. When a “paper” is heavier than 160 g/m2 we usually call it board.
• Board used for packaging food or cigarettes (called “folding box board”) usually consists of 2 to 3 layers whereas paper is in practically all cases a single layer product.
