What is wet strength and why is it needed ?

Wet strength means that paper maintains a specified degree of strength even when it is wet.

Wet-strength paper is used for labels for returnable bottles and for packing moisture containing products. Paper can be made moisture resistant e.g. by adding certain types of resins to the fibre mix.
